Today in class we used Weighted Averages to calculate Slugging Averages and Quarterback Ratings. These lab sheets are attached below. Your homework tonight is to complete the worksheet QRB and Slugging % Homework. It will be due Friday in your notebook. Extra Credit: If you would like extra credit on this assignment, look up one baseball player and one quarterback and calculate the slugging percentage and quarterback rating. Be sure to list what website you found the stats and show all work in your calculations.
Today in class we looked at UPC codes, bank routing numbers, and ISBN codes all in the context of check digits. You brought in real products and checked the final digit to ensure that it was in fact a valid barcode. Tomorrow in class we will be moving onto Credit Card numbers and how these numbers are validated.
In class today we learned about Weighted Averages in the context of course grade percentages. Tomorrow we will be looking at Weighted Averages in other contexts. For homework tonight you need to answer the reflection question and complete the 4 problems on the Weighted Average Homework worksheet.
Today you guys had a quiz over Check Digits and turned in your notebook. Be sure to stay on top of those notebook checks every week so you do not miss out on easy classwork grades. As a review for your quiz tomorrow, you solved various check digit problems from the worksheet Check That Digit. At the end of class you were able to check your answers and the answers are posted below as well. You do not have to memorize the various weights for each individual code, but you do have to remember how to use them correctly.
We started class learning about a credit card magic trick. It turned out this magic trick is in fact a part of the design of a credit card. Using weighted sums, we were able to determine the validity of credit cards numbers. Homework for tonight is to complete the Book Check Digit 1/2 sheet.
We started class today watching a video on the history and importance of barcodes. After this, we did a lab on check digits and how they are used in universal product codes (UPC). Tonight for homework complete You will be checking these working in groups.
